Frequently Asked Questions
Batish Family Medicine Transitioning to Dawson Med at Leland
Dr. Batish has shared the news of his upcoming retirement from the practice of family medicine. We understand this is an important and emotional transition for many patients, and we want to answer common questions about what this means for your care.
1. What is happening at Batish Family Medicine?
After nearly three decades of caring for the Leland community, Dr. Batish will be retiring from the practice of family medicine. To ensure continuity and stability for patients, Batish Family Medicine will transition to Dawson Med at Leland, a neighboring, locally based practice. Dawson Med Primary and Urgent Care is located just four miles away and has served the greater Wilmington area since 2021. Moving forward, Dawson Med Primary and Urgent Care will assume care for Batish Family Medicine patients under the name Dawson Med at Leland, continuing the tradition of community-centered, relationship-based care close to home.
2. When will this transition take place?
The effective date of the transition is April 1, 2026. After this date, Dawson Med at Leland will assume responsibility for managing patient care, scheduling, billing, and medical records.
3. Why is Dr. Batish retiring?
Family medicine has been a calling for Dr. Batish, and serving the Leland community since 1998 has been one of the most meaningful chapters of his life. As he enters this next stage, Dr. Batish and his wife will be relocating to the Raleigh area to care for his parents and his children.
4. Who will be providing my care moving forward?
Your care will continue with trusted providers you already know, along with the addition of a new physician:
- Allison Hindt, PA-C
- Emily Crosson, PA-C
- Umar Bowers, MD
Allison Hindt, PA-C and Emily Crosson, PA-C will remain part of the practice and continue providing the high-quality care you are familiar with. Dr. Batish thoughtfully selected Dr. Bowers to join the practice because his mission and vision strongly align with the long-standing priorities of Batish Family Medicine—individualized, relationship-based care and a deep commitment to community-centered primary care.
5. Will the staff I know still be there?
Yes. The same trusted staff will continue caring for patients, including:
- Kim and Sonya, who will continue to welcome you at the front desk
- Crystal, Alice, and June, who will address your nursing needs
- Emily and Allison, who will continue providing exceptional clinical care
Maintaining continuity and familiarity for patients remains a top priority.
6. Will the practice location change?
No. The practice will remain in the same location you know and are familiar with.
7. Will my medical records transfer?
Yes. All patient medical records will be securely maintained and available to the Dawson Med at Leland team to ensure seamless continuity of care.
8. Do I need to do anything to continue my care?
In most cases, no action is required. You may continue your care as usual with Dawson Med at Leland. If your insurance provider requires you to select a primary care provider (PCP), this should be completed after April 1, 2026. Should any forms or updates be needed, the practice will contact you directly.
9. Will Dawson Med at Leland accept my insurance?
Dawson Med at Leland accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare and many commercial plans. Most patients can expect their coverage to remain the same through the transition, with no impact on their care. If you have questions about your specific plan, you can confirm directly with the office or your insurance provider.
10. Will my medications or treatment plans change?
No changes will be made. Your new providers will have full access to your medical history and will continue managing medications and care plans with the same thoughtful approach you are accustomed to.
